Chandigarh: This season has become a symbol of hope, effort, and faith for Punjab’s hardworking farming community. Under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab government has set a new record by procuring more than 150 lakh metric tons of paddy this year.
This achievement is especially remarkable because many parts of the state faced floods that damaged crops, yet the strong policies of the government and the determination of farmers helped overcome every hurdle.
As per official numbers, by the evening of November 10, a total of 1,51,80,075.88 metric tons of paddy had reached the mandis across the state. Out of this, 1,50,35,129.93 metric tons were purchased, which means around 99 percent of the total arrival was procured. This shows how well the government’s solid and reliable system worked throughout the procurement season.
The state government has built modern and transparent infrastructure to ensure that the work in the mandis is quick and hassle-free. Lal Chand Kataruchak, the Minister of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs, has been closely tracking the situation on the ground so that farmers do not face any issues at any stage of procurement.
Thanks to this efficient system, more than 11 lakh farmers have already received the Minimum Support Price (MSP). Patiala district has seen the highest number of farmers getting paid under MSP. Around 90 percent of the procured paddy—over 135 lakh metric tons—has already been lifted from the mandis, which has helped keep the market areas clear and well-managed.
One of the biggest successes of this season is the timely payment to farmers. The government has directly transferred more than Rs 34,000 crore into farmers’ bank accounts so far. In most mandis, payments were completed within 48 hours of procurement, ensuring farmers faced no delay in preparing for their next crop cycle.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said, “This milestone belongs to the hardworking farmers of Punjab and to the dedication of our officers and staff. Our aim is not only to buy paddy but also to ensure dignity, security, and independence for every farmer.”
The government’s “Farmer-First Policy” has clearly shown its strength. Proper planning, enough staff, and real-time monitoring of mandis have made Punjab’s procurement model an example for the entire country.
This achievement is more than just a record number. It shows the deep trust of farmers, the openness of government working, and effective governance. The Punjab government has once again proved that with clear intentions and a strong system, no challenge is too big for the state’s progress.
